Stress can take a lot out of you. When you feel overwhelmed and “up against the wall”, do you notice familiar headaches or backaches that you get in response to a stressful situation? Before you let this upset you, take the time to think about what type of stress you’re experiencing.

There are two types of stress: Eustress and Stress. Each is so different; one is actually useful while the other is harmful to your body.

Eustress is one of the helpful types of stress. Eustress is an anxious feeling that’s more akin to anticipation than dread. You may experience eustress before giving a presentation at work, before going on a job interview or when preparing a gourmet meal from a recipe you’ve never tried before.

Eustress happens, too, right before you need to exert physical force as it prepares the body for whatever is about to happen.

In eustress, you’re dealing with uncertainty, and the outcome isn’t fatal. It is the proper name for a man’s pounding heart as he produces the engagement ring or the bride’s pre-wedding jitters just as she’s about to walk down the aisle.

These are “good” stresses as they represent taking a step into the unknown toward a positive outcome. Stress or “distress”, on the other hand, is fear, anxiety, frustration and that overcoming sense of dread.

Ever experience “job burnout”? This is the result of working too long in a stressful environment. Exposure to stressful situations and people whose demands become stressful to you results in negative stress and burnout.

With stress, there’s nothing useful about it. It’s the warm-up act for a heart attack, stroke and emotional breakdown. Those who say they “work better under stress,” haven’t asked their immune system how it feels.

This could also affect your immune system! Living or working under stressful conditions for long periods of time is damaging to your immune system. Ever noticed how you’re more inclined to catch the office cold when you’re overworked than when you are not?

Your immune system can’t deal with the stress load and have enough left over to fight a bug. Stop and analyze your stress in a “mood journal” by writing down specific answers to these questions:

What causes you to feel stress?

Where are you when you feel the most stress?

Who is with you?

What are you doing?

Has anything changed recently in this situation?

When observing your stress patterns, you can look at ways to change either your involvement with stress or your response to it. Is what you are feeling really harmful stress (distress) or just eustress?

If it’s actually eustress, then you can change what you say from, “I’m so stressed out over the vacation” to, “I’m so excited about our vacation!” You’ll be amazed how your body responds differently to each type of stress.

You’d better manage stress, or it’ll find a way to manage you. Stress can be very invasive in your life. It loves to be in the driver’s seat and you hand over the keys without fail on a regular basis because you feel defeated by it.

You could blame. Blame the boss, the spouse or the traffic. While you can’t control what other people do or say, you can manage some of the smaller irritations in your world in order to reduce your stress.

Here are some stress triggers that you have the ability to bring under management:

Clutter: Got “stuff”? The more you have, the more time and attention it will require to maintain. One way to reduce that demand is to eliminate the clutter and get rid of some stuff that you don’t really need. (Sell it on eBay and make a few bucks from it. You’ll find it great therapy and fun, too!) Start room by room and take a critical look at the time demands of your stuff. Tip: Pledge to give away or throw away at least two clutter items from every room.

Buy Less: Before you buy a new wok or 26-piece baking set, think about how often you would actually use those items. Do you have any other kitchen equipment that can double for the same purposes? (I know for me, books are my weakness. So many books and they take up so much space! Now, I borrow them from the library or download a digital book instead.)

Magazine-Perfect Housekeeping: Sometimes, good enough is good enough. Unless you can afford a full time housekeeper, just accept that “it’s clean” is good enough. Save the frantic floor polishing and baseboard wiping for seasonal cleaning or preparing for a party. Remember, those rooms in those magazines look so great because they were done by a crew of designers and cleaners. (And, sometimes, no one actually lives there to mess them up.)

Are You a Clothes Horse? Buying clothes is a kind of closet “clutter addiction” that can get out of control. Clothing isn’t just something on a hanger; you need to wash, mend, press or take it to the dry cleaners. It’s actually harder to get dressed in the morning if you have an over-stuffed closet. So many choices become stressful—as does not being able to find the other shoe or that special tie, so you waste time changing outfits.

Trim down the closet. (Ebay again!) If you need help, ask a fashionable friend or hire a wardrobe consultant to work with you. These are just a few ways to manage stress by dealing with the things in your home. You can apply the same strategy to the “stuff” in your office, too.

Lately, I have been helping many people with getting over the loss of a loved one. Grief. It’s tough to handle and if you are handling this alone, it’s even worse. What most people don’t know is that hypnotism is excellent in helping you get over the pain of grieving.

So, How Does This Actually Work?

In hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), we talk about association and disassociation. When you are associated to a thought, it can overpower you. So, what if you can learn to disassociate from the pain of grieving? That would be amazing.

At Plymouth Hypnosis Center, what I do is help you “move away” or disassociate from the pain — as if it were a movie, for instance. If the thoughts aren’t happening to YOU, and instead, you are experiencing this as if you were watching a movie, then the feelings become less intense. You’ve disassociated with the grief.

One of the questions I usually get, however, is “Can you make me forget…?” And, the answer is: No.

Aside from the fact that you can’t remove memories with hypnotism (contrary to what you see on TV and the movies), you really wouldn’t want to remove those memories, right?

But, what I can do is help you turn down the “volume” of those thoughts — so you can cope with them and get on with life.

And, once you’ve turned down the “volume” and disassociated from those powerful thoughts, you’ll feel better, think more clearly and be able to live again.

The memories will still be intact; they just won’t overpower you.

Lastly, I will teach you how to distort time. Since they say, “Time heals all wounds”, what if you learned how to make time fly… so that it feels like months or even years later. The pain diminishes even more.

If you need help in getting over a grieving process, call me at 610-397-1515 and we’ll talk in a free consultation. It’ll take about 40 minutes.

Or, worse — it’s you. Bedwetting happens to children and adults and it’s not only mortifying, but it extremely stressful to all involved. Fortunately, hypnotism can save the day. (Or night.)

Whether the bedwetting happens in the home, at camp, at a hotel or whatever — it’s embarrassing and so time-consuming. And, the mental anguish is excruciating.

One of the techniques in helping my clients who come in for nocturnal enuresis or bedwetting is to help the client be aware of their sleep.

Unlike sleep alarms that just wake you up at night, you learn how to communicate with your body (with self-hypnosis) and you actually do wake up and run to the bathroom. This is effective and many of my clients see results almost immediately.

Hypnosis is better than drugs and there are no side-effects. If this is a problem for you or your family, call me at 610-397-1515 and we’ll talk.

I get this question all of the time. In any conversation, when someone finds out that I am a Professional Hypnotist, the question always (and, I mean always!) comes out:

“Hypnosis? Does that really work?”

It’s a funny question and it took me a while to get used to it because all I could think was, “Of course it works!”

You see, the success my clients get in the offices of Plymouth Hypnosis Center is amazing. (When you come in, you’ll see a HUGE binder with over 600 written testimonials in it!)

But, I get it. Most people have never met a Hypnotist. Never been to a Hypnotist. Never met someone who’s been to a Hypnotist…

It’s kind of an odd question, but I do get why they ask it.

So, allow me to answer it: Yes. Hypnosis does work — if you are sincerely looking for it to work. This is why I offer a FREE screening appointment in my office. It’s to evaluate and see if hypnosis is right for you. Note: You must be committed to your success and want to take action on your respective program. Results may vary, of course, depending on this commitment.

Do you need help in losing weight, quitting smoking, managing stress… any other problems? Call me at 610-397-1515 and we’ll schedule a no-hassle, stress-free time to talk and see if this is right for you!

You’ll be amazed. And, after you’ve lost that weight, or quit smoking or whatever… and your friends ask you how, and you tell them you went to a Hypnotist at Plymouth Hypnosis Center… wait for the question, “Hypnosis? Does that really work?”

I guarantee you’ll smile!

Stress isn’t a one shot deal where you get it once and then never have to worry about it again… you can experience stress repeatedly and, while that might be par for the course for many people, stress can wreak serious havoc on your quality of life.

Stress can make you feel terrible health-wise. While you might not immediately realize that you’re dealing with a high level of stress, however you may have felt that something is different physically.

Having the “jitters” or feeling nervous are signs of severe stress. So are other physical problems that you might dismiss at first. But this ailment can usually be traced back to the moment it began.

Maybe you began to struggle with physical symptoms after a loved one walked out on you or after a child was diagnosed with an illness? Perhaps, you witnessed a trauma or been through one yourself?

Situations such as those can cause stress that lasts for a period of time. The kind of feeling that persists is said to be a more serious form of stress and calls for a period of treatment to alleviate the problem.

How you choose to address stress management can vary from a few simple techniques to more in depth intervention such as medication or sessions with a counselor or a hypnotist. Sometimes handling the way you feel can be as easy as not doing what you’ve always done.

Everybody has stress. (The only time when you have no stress is when you are dead.) When you feel stress, your body will respond; it’s just the way it was meant to react. It’s fight or flight. This is a good thing in small doses; it’s for your protection and well being. But if your body is in a constant state of upheaval, this can lead to digestive problems, sleep problems and more.

When stress reaches the point where it’s causing you to miss out on life, getting help is the most important thing you can do for your mental health as well as your physical health.

Call me, Bryan Toder, now at 610-397-1515 and we’ll talk in a free consultation about how hypnosis can help you reduce and manage your stress.

Realize that stress management is not always a one step cure. It’s a process — a series of small steps that you can take. Results will vary and with help, you can learn how to cope and come out on the other side — to a healthier, happier you.

Most of us have a fear. But when that fear becomes paralyzing — when it affects our lives or our very safety — that’s the time to fix it. Hypnotism and NLP is a great way to do it!

People with fears have their careers in jeopardy, lives could be at stake in an emergency and it’s just a horrible way to live. You can fix it — and lead a happier life!

Many people have overly-aggressive fears or phobias that stop them in their tracks.

Some of the most common fears are:

• Driving over bridges
• Bugs (the fear of spiders is a big one!)
• Relationships
• Public speaking
• Social situations or sociophobia
• Needles
• Success
• Failure
• Death
• Disease, especially cancer
• Thunder & lightning
• Heights or acrophobia
• Confined spaces or claustrophobia
• Open spaces or agoraphobia
• Flying or aerophobia
• … and so much more!

Fear is a normal reaction and this emotion has been imprinted in all of us. Fear is the internal knowledge (whether true or false) that you are in danger or that something bad is about to happen. And, fear is usually accompanied by physical symptoms which are quite disturbing.

But, when it is not justified by any rational cause, or the presence of a real danger or threat and when it is also accompanied by the systematic avoidance of the situations that lead to it, then this is what is called a phobia.

Fortunately, much of the reaction to a fear can be reduced or even eliminated with hypnosis and/or NLP. NLP, by the way or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is a way to get results in MINUTES — usually with just a few sessions. (The hypnotist at Plymouth Hypnosis Center, Bryan D. Toder, is a Master Practitioner in NLP.) Your results will vary, of course.

Do you have a fear or phobia? Call Bryan Toder now at 610-397-1515 and discuss the situation at a FREE screening!

<img src="http://plymouthhypnosis.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/fears.jpg" alt="" title="Eliminate Fears" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;" width="300" height="201" align="left" size-full wp-image-803" />

Most people who call my office to eliminate a fear at Plymouth Hypnosis Center usually ask the same question, “Can you help me eliminate my fear of _____________ ?” The answer is yes and no.

So, okay, that’s not the best answer, but let me explain…

Fears are there for a reason. They are there to protect you. (You really don’t want to start a career of jumping out of planes, now do you?) But, it’s when the fear becomes a problem — when it affects your life — that it needs to be addressed.

And, in most cases, your fear can be reduced. Which goes back to my original answer: “yes and no”. Yes, the fear can be eliminated, but is that always so wise?

For instance, I get a lot of clients with the fear of bridges. They just can’t, for some odd reason, drive over a bridge without panicking. So, I can usually get them to “turn down” that fear, but we don’t want to “eliminate” it totally because you really want to be somewhat cautious while driving on a bridge. (You need to be aware of all of the drivers and what they are doing. You are able to drive without the fear, but you aren’t reckless about it.) However, the initial fear of driving over the bridge can be so reduced that it’s not a problem. Get it?

Usually, within just a few sessions, your fears will be so minimized that they won’t “get in your way”. Everybody’s happy.

Here’s a sample testimonial (just one of several HUNDREDS in my office) from a woman who was incredibly afraid of dogs:

No Longer Afraid of Dogs

So end how those fears take hold of you and control your life! Get control of them! Call me now at 610-397-1515 for your free hypnosis screening. It’ll take about 40 minutes and you’ll get your life back on track.
